Day #18 - January 21, 2010 - Now reading...

The LSPSP (Life skills program for student parents) coordinator at my school started a book club for our middle school girls. All of my middle school girls here are in the LSPSP program because they have either had a baby or are expecting. So, she thought this would be a great way to get them all together and also have mentors. She asked me to be a mentor and I'm so glad she did. We had our first meeting yesterday, and this is the book that she picked for us to start reading, True Believer by Virginia Euwer Wolff. It is the second book in the Make Lemonade Trilogy. I started reading the book last night and it is of course more for teen reading, but it is a cute book so far and very appropriate for the teen parents. So far I've gathered that it's about an inner city highschool girl and her friends. It discusses everything a inner city high school girl has to deal with; sex, drugs, being raised by a single parent, dangerous neighborhoods, etc. This was definitely a good choice for these girls to read. I'm looking forward to finishing it and hopefully I'll be able to read the other 2 books in the trilogy.
