Random Tidbits

I have had nothing exciting to write about the past few days so here are just some random things that I can share with everyone about my week.

~I got new tires put on my car yesterday and I am loving them. The Honda dealership sold me a car with bad tires and it was making a loud thump thump thump noise all the time so I finally complained and got new tires. It's amazing what a simple threat to call the BBB can do... ;)

~Tomorrow is my last day at work. Well, at my current school, at least. I am moving to a new school starting Monday and I'm packing up my clinic here to prepare. It's amazing how much junk you accumulate, except it's not really junk. Most of it is stuff I actually need.

(Just a very small pile of stuff that I have to take to my car...and my trunk is already full!)

~John and I are having a date night tomorrow night to the Mad Potter! :) Check out the website! We painted plates from there at a baby shower recently and I loved it. And guess what, the next week I got an email from Goupon saying that was the deal of the day so I bought it. I can't wait to paint!

~I hated to hear that one of my roommates from college passed away recently from brain cancer. I didn't keep up with her much after I transferred to TWU Houston, but I am still so sad to hear about this. They are having a benefit for her at the Chili's in Denton and 20% of the proceeds go to the hospice company that provided her end of life care. I can't be there, but my family will be going.

~I have been having some killer headaches the past few months. Seriously, I get them 2 or 3 times a week and it's miserable. I have a neurologist appointment today to see if we can figure this out!

~Speaking of Groupon, I have an obsession with it and Living Social. I get the daily emails from both places and I have been buying stuff from there like crazy. And, it helps that I have both apps for the iPhone too! Today I paid $20 for $40 worth of food at Palazzos. It's right down the street from our house and John and I like to eat there after work sometimes because it's so close. And, it's yummy :-P

(a screen shot of my Living Social app for today)

~I want a new kitty. Like bad.

No, I won't actually get one though. I could officially be called the Crazy Cat Lady then and John is allergies. And I don't want to have to clean a cat box any more than I already have to and cat food is darn expensive! But just so you know how much of a freak I am, I cried at Petsmart on Sunday. Yes, cried in the middle of the store because there was a cat there that I wanted to take home but couldn't. And yes, you can call me a weirdo now.

And that's about all that's up with me lately. Hope everyone has a great rest of the week!

Tuesday's List - Christmas List

I'm participating in Jessica's Tuesday's List for the first time today!
What a great topic - My Christmas List! (and birthday since that is less than a month away now) :)
I did a wishful Wednesday post a few weeks ago and some of the stuff is a repeat because I went ahead and bought some of the other stuff!

1. This is what I need the most... a new computer, preferably an iMac!

2. I'd really like to have an iPad as well, but the computer gets first priority. I love my iPhone 4 and would love to have a bigger version for reading, games, uploading pics on the go, etc.

3. If my boyfriend is feeling inclined, I'd like to add this to my ring finger as well...

(from Blue Nile)

4. I'd love to add some charms to my charm bracelet...

(all from James Avery)

5. I've been wanting a nice pearl set for awhile, but don't want the standard string of pearls...

(all from Blue Nile)

6. I really want some Tory Burch Reva's but with my growing shoe collection, I know this isn't a must have purchase... I really like the logo on this pair.

7. I gotta have some new Vera Bradley stuff from their new Fall/Winter Color Collection too...

Travel jewelry box

iPad case (if I get the iPad!)

Insulated lunch bag

8. Gift certificates to my favorite nail place...
Nails and Spa of Bunker Hill

9. And of course, I'll always take giftcards to my other faves...
Gap
Macy's
Hobby Lobby
Pier 1
Target
Home Goods
NY&Co.
etc etc etc...

I know I won't be getting all of this, it's just my wish list... A girl can dream right? ;)

House divided

Sunday was the big game between the Houston Texans and the Dallas Cowboys!
You can tell by this picture how are day was...

Mine turning out much better than John's! :)

Big Tex!

One of the fabulous things I love about fall...Seein' Big Tex at the State Fair! This weekend marks the opening weekend of the State Fair of Texas in Dallas. I am so excited to take John here for the first time! We'll be heading to Dallas the weekend of October 9th to see Texas Tech take on the Baylor Bears at the Cotton Bowl, which happens to be on the fair grounds. You can bet we will be taking advantage of being there by eating all the yummy fried foods and taking in all the sights and, of course, riding the ferris wheel!

Because we don't know what time the game is yet, we can't plan our day, but some of the things I'm looking forward to are:
The yummy fried food like the corn dogs and the new fried frito pie...

The pig races...

Walking around the midway and maybe playing a few games and definitely taking a ride on the ferris wheel...

See these boys...

play in this stadium...

And see Wade Bowen on the Chevrolet Main Stage...

There are so many other fun things to see and do and I can not wait to take it all in!

Makin' me happy

Well, it's been a rough week. But even after this rough week I know that I do still have things to be thankful for and I want to write about the things that are making me happy right now...
1) My honey finally gets along with Cotton and Cotton finally lets John touch him!

2)Cotton being extra cuddly lately

3)My new wallet and make-up bag from Vera Bradley

(I ordered them both in Barcelona)
4)The fact that my hair has grown out and I can do it curly again. Hello extra sleep!

5)Fall candles and smells making my house smell good

6)My new Shanghai app for the iphone

7)And last but not least, this man...

He has made this rough week bearable by taking care of me when I had a headache, making me dinner when I was too tired to and just loving me no matter what. I am so blessed!

Gleeks!

How could I forget to put GLEE on my list of fall TV shows that I couldn't wait to watch last week?? This was one of the ones I was most excited about and Tuesday’s season premiere did not disappoint!
I was most impressed with their cover of Empire State of Mind…

Can’t wait for next week!

An update...

Well, it’s been over a week since my last post, and my oh my, how things have changed…
Last Wednesday, my principal called a meeting at work in the library right in the middle of the day, which was kind of odd. When HR and our school improvement officer came in, we knew things were about to change. Yup, they’re closing us down. I knew in the back of my head it was coming since last school year, I just didn’t want to admit it to myself. We only ended the semester last year with 105 students and on the day of the meeting we only had about 60 students (and 58 employees). Right, it just isn’t cost effective. So, they told us to start packing our stuff, start looking for jobs, etc. They didn’t have a date for us that day, but said it could be as early as October 1st or as late as the end of the semester. So, after the meeting, I immediately started searching the districts website for other nursing positions, updated my resume and references, and started calling principals.
Thursday I had an interview with a middle school in the same district and way long story and a lot of drama made short, I got the job. They gave us a target closing date of October 4th, so that’s when I will be starting my new job. HR is expediting all the paperwork to transfer me so I can start that soon. I feel lucky that I have found a job, because a lot of the teachers here will just be placed somewhere if they can’t find anything before the school closes. Luckily we are almost all in contracts so, they have to let us have a job somewhere in the district at least until the end of the school year. But, I am extremely blessed with my job. It’s in a semi-good neighborhood (better than where I am now) and it’s 15 minutes from my house and there shouldn’t be any traffic headed that way when I go. There are 1000 kids which will be a HUGE difference from my 60 that I have now, but I am really looking forward to a change.
I was really torn up over this last week. But, I know that things happen for a reason and this is probably a big blessing in disguise. God has his plan and there is nothing we can do get around that.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5)

And this is what I have to remind myself of every day...

Fall TV

With the season premiere of One Tree Hill last night, it got me so excited for the fall TV line up!

Season 8 of One Tree Hill started yesterday. I have watched One Tree Hill since I was in college at TWU in Denton. Watching it brings me back to that place... laying in bed with my best friends in the dorm ooohing and ahhhing over Lucas Scott! :) Yesterdays episode did not disappoint either! Although it is a little more racy than I ever remember it being!

Other shows I can't wait to start watching next week...

Private Practice - premiers Thursday September 23rd

Desperate Housewives - Premiers Sunday September 26th

Brothers and Sisters - Premiers Sunday September 26th

And of course once these start back up, I'll my DVRing them as well...
