Summer To-Do List

Sorry y'all, this is a really boring post today, but this is more for MY record and I need y'all to help keep me accountable! :) sooooo.....

It is T minus 7 days until Summer vacation!

What does that mean you are wondering?

Well, it's time to make my 'list' of things I'm hoping to accomplish this summer while I'm off work!

My main goal of the summer - NOT SPEND MONEY!

You see, I have a problem. When I get bored, I shop. I make random trips to the mall, to Hobby Lobby, anywhere just to get out of the house. When I make those random trips, I decide that I need more clothes, more house decorations, or really whatever I can get my hands on.

So, here's my list of things I'd like to accomplish this summer while NOT spending money...

1. Learn Spanish - kind of a big goal huh? Well, I got Rosetta Stone so I'd really like to tackle getting a big chunk of that learned this Summer. This is essential if I want to stay at my current job. I work in a school that is 98% Hispanic and I am sick of getting eyes rolled at me when I ask my office staff to translate.
2. Decide if I want to go back to school and study for the GRE if needed - I'm pretty sure I will be going back to school in the near future. I just have to decide what exactly it is I want to do. This summer I'd really like to do a lot of research on the different degree options and start studying for the GRE if I choose a degree where I need it.

3. Look for/interview for new jobs - Yeah, I'd really like to find a new job before July 1st. That's my cut off date for turning in my resignation to the school district since I've already signed my contract. I'd really like to get in to a doctors office or something similar, or maybe even another school district.

4. Take a photography class - Because I'll have so much free time this summer I'd really like to get out of the house to do a photography class. We have a Nikon D3000 and I have no idea how to use it. I use it like my point and shoot and although it does produce better pictures, I know I'm not using all of the functions. Yes, this costs money, but it's a good investment and it gets me out of the house without going shopping.

5. Exercise - uhhh yeah. I need to not sit on my booty all day on the couch. I need to get out on my bicycle, go to the park and walk, or even do the Wii Active.

6. Spend time at the pool - This is where I spent most of the summer last year and it was Heaven. I plan on still spending a lot of time there this year and getting a pretty nice tan ;) This year I really do need to start wearing sunscreen though.

7. Read - I've been really slacking in the reading department lately so I'm hoping to get caught up on my reading list this summer.

8. Netflix - I'm really hoping to catch up on my instant queue. I spent money on my netflix account every month and don't use it as much as I should. Hopefully this summer I can get my monies worth!

9. Spend a week in Ft. Worth with my family

So, there ya go.

I'm hoping these things will keep me busy enough this summer where I can stay away from the malls and my favorite stores.

What are your plans this summer? Do you have any ideas of things I can do to keep me away from the malls?

{Oh yeah - Have y'all entered my giveaway yet? Go do it, now! :)}

What a great list! I need to learn more about my DSLR bc I feel I still have a lot to learn. Maybe we can take a photography class together!

If you're thinking of taking the GRE this summer, you have some big decisions to make, as the test is changing (significantly) starting August 1. http://www.kaptest.com/GRE/Explore-the-GRE/blogs.html for more info on the new test, or look at the test maker's site www.gre.org.

There's still time to take the current test, but you'll want to register soon since spots are filling up.
