Let's Hear it for New York...

{Now that you have Alicia Keys and Jay-Z stuck in your head... }

John and I just found out we are going back to New York for Christmas!

John's family is in New York so 2 years ago we went to visit. This was my first time to visit NY at Christmas and to meet his whole family. Talk about an overwhelming trip! ;)

Since this trip was before I started blogging I thought I would do a little recap of our trip!

Y'all NY at Christmas is absolutely insane. I even told myself I'd never go back. There are people EVERYWHERE! But, even with all the madness, it will still so much fun and I think everyone needs to experience NY at Christmas at least once. Talk about a perfect way to bring Christmas cheer :)

So, anyway, we were there Christmas of 2009. We flew in Christmas Eve morning and went to John's aunts and uncles house (i have no idea where this was but it wasn't in the city). We spent Christmas Eve and Christmas Day there and had tons of snow!

The day after Christmas John's dad took us into the city and we checked into a hotel in the financial district. It was pouring down rain and freezing cold so we didn't get to do a lot. We ended up walking down 5th avenue, nearly getting our eyes poked out with umbrellas and taking a look at what was started of the Ground Zero Memorial. The Christmas tree in front of NYSE (seen below) is *almost* as pretty as the one in Rockefeller Center too.

That night we made our way to Chinatown in the rain and ate at THE best chinese food restaurant I've ever eaten at, 17 Wo Hop. You must try it! After dinner we walked to Little Italy and got desserts at a little bakery, La Bella Ferrara. We had some dang good rainbow cookies. These rainbow cookies are my FAVE!!

We only had 2 full days in the city and one of them was spent in the rain so we did what any tourist would do and took the city tour bus :) I'm so glad we did this because we got to see so much of the city we would have never seen. The next day we saw all the major sites...

Something I highly recommend for any NY trip is visiting the Top of the Rock. John's cousin told us we should do this instead of the Empire State Building and I'm glad we did! You have an absolutely incredible view of the city from the top. I love that you can see Central Park and the Empire State Building.

We of course loved seeing all of the Christmas decorations out and about in the city and of course John had to stop in front of the Mets store! I had it in my head that I WOULD ice skate. I walked up to the ice skating rink and I quickly changed my mind! There were people everywhere. I had to take that picture holding my camera up over peoples heads!

That night we did a Holiday Lights tour and it took us down 5th avenue where we got to see all the shops all decorated for Christmas. And of course the last stop was going by the Christmas Tree in Rockefeller Center. That picture of us with the tree in the background is absolutely priceless!

After the light tour we ate at Carnegie Deli. OMG. If you like NY deli sandwiches, you must visit this place. The portions were huge, you got a bowl of pickles, and we had the best cheesecake we had ever put in our mouths!

The next morning we didn't have long we so we did another quick city tour where we got to see NYU, the museums and Harlem.

This trip we are flying in before Christmas and spending a few days in the city before we head to spend Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with John's family...

Coming up tomorrow: What I want to see and do this time in NY!

Yay for NYC! That's so exciting that ya'll are going back this year. I have a few suggestions for your next trip: Magnolia Bakery (you must!!!), the Brooklyn Bridge, and if you plan to do any shopping you should pop into the original Tiffany & Co. store just to see what it's like. It's 6 stories and such a cool experience!

NYC is my favorite city ever. Thankfully I have an aunt and uncle who live there. I spent Christmas 2001 there, and it was so awesome. NYC really is so magical at Christmas!

These photos are fantastic! I think NYC is definitely something that everyone should experience around the holidays and that's awesome you're getting to do it again.

I still need to go and have no excuse considering I'm in Philly and only about 2 hours away.
