So, I guess this what you've all been waiting for huh??
Where do I start??
Most of you know that John and I have been talking about getting engaged for awhile and he just always said he wasn't ready, etc etc etc.
We had a heart to heart the weekend before we left for New York and I realized then that it wasn't going to happen in New York. We went and looked at rings and we picked out what we both liked and just told him to pick out something when he was ready and that was the end of it. I didn't want to keep pushing so much that I pushed him away. And I still wanted to be surprised.
So, when we got to New York, I was not expecting a proposal at all!
We got to our hotel that morning and we were talking about where we were going to go eat lunch because we were starving. We decided we were going for Chinese and I was getting ready to go when he came over and gave me a hug and started telling me how special I am. We had a sweet conversation (no need for details here) and I continued to put my jacket on and grab my purse when he stopped me and told me he really wanted to go ahead and give me my Christmas present. I could tell he was super nervous so I knew then what was fixing to happen.
He got down on his knee right there, said some really sweet stuff and asked me to marry him :)
I was in so much shock I might have forgotten to say yes!
But I did say yes and I am so beyond happy that I get to marry my best friend.
A lot of people have already given John a hard time because we were in NYC and he didn't propose in Central Park or at the Christmas Tree or whatever, but I just wanted to say that this proposal was perfect for US! We are both very reserved and private and I am so glad this moment happened with just us. And the fact that he did it as soon as we got to NYC was the best thing ever. The trip ended up being a totally different vacation because we were ENGAGED!
He ended up telling me that he did it as soon as we got there because he was too nervous to carry the ring around any longer. Even once he gave it to me and I wore it around the city he kept checking to make sure it was still on my finger. :)
He actually ended up picking out the ring all by himself. He took little ideas from the rings we had looked at together and built one that we both would like.
AND I LOVE IT!
Now that I look back on the beginning of the day I think it's funny that I didn't see the "signs" earlier.
He only took a carry on suitcase and when we were late for our flight (another blogpost coming on that) all the overhead bins were full. We had my Vera Bradley bag with our iPad, Kindle and Camera so I insisted that that couldn't go under the plane and told the flight attendant to take his bag. He started freaking out. Then he was pretty quiet the rest of the plane ride.
After he proposed we called both of our mom's and my Grannie and then sent this picture to everyone else:
We are so excited and cant wait to start the next part of our lives!
And of course nothing is official until your relationship status is changed on Facebook! :)
Thanks to everyone for all the sweet tweets, comments and texts over the last week!!
