All of these graduations being posted on Facebook made me reminisce about 5 years ago....
I "like" the TWU alumni page on Facebook and Saturday the College of Nursing had their graduation. I can't believe it's been 5 years since that was me!!!
Since that was before my blogging times I thought I would share my story and some of my favorite pics from the last few weeks of nursing school...
Nursing school was hell. It was the worst 2 years of my life actually. I moved away from my family to Houston all by myself and was pretty much locked in my apartment for 2 years studying my butt off. I honestly didn't know if I would make it through the 2 years after seeing so many people before me fail and seeing so many of my classmates have to drop out.
I made it through the first 3 semesters with decent grades, mostly A's and B's, and a lot of knowledge I never thought I'd be able to retain for that final test.
In April of 2007, my last semester of nursing school, it was time to take the BIG test. The HESI. This would determine if we graduated or not. I did not leave my house for a week studying for this test. My stomach was in knots for 3 days straight prior and I didn't sleep the night before. We went in that morning, sat down at a computer, took the test and hit submit. The 60 seconds following hitting that submit button was the longest 60 seconds of my life....
Finally my score popped up and I passed.
I didn't just pass, I passed with flying colors too. I called my mom and cried. That moment was what I had spent 5 hard years of undergrad working for.
Now all I had to do was take my finals and I'd be on my way to getting my nurses pin and graduating!
The first weekend of May we had our Pinning Ceremony. The Pinning Ceremony is something that the graduating class puts on themselves where we get our nurses pin. The Pinning Ceremony is a symbolic ceremony that welcomes the new grads into the profession. Our class put a lot of time and effort in to our pinning ceremony and it was so wonderful. You got to pick someone in your life to pin you and while you were getting pinned the announcer told everyone where you had accepted a job offer. (unfortunately my ex-fiance pinned me so I deleted all those pictures - a major regret I have)
The next week we took our last final exams and we were DONE!
After our last day of class/finals we went out on the town to celebrate...
And you will see all those pictures tomorrow ;)
