12/17/12: The Ceremony Music

Music is something I spent ALOT of time on and due to a major hiccup at the resort, it all didn't get played. But I still wanted to share what we chose for our ceremony.

I wanted completely non-traditional. We weren't having a traditional wedding after all! I knew from the start of picking a destination wedding,  I would walk down the aisle to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by Iz. The Wizard of Oz was my favorite movie growing up so this was perfect for me and this version was so "beachy."

So, I kind of went with that "beachy" theme for the rest of the music and based everything off of that song. I had 5 songs picked out to start playing while our guests were arriving and being seated. The sound system ended up not working so none of it got played. We actually had to start the wedding about 10 minutes late so they could get it fixed to play the music for the bridal party entrance and my entrance. Even though it didn't get played, I wanted to share incase there are any other destination brides out there too having the same song choice problems like I did! haha

These were the songs that were supposed to be playing as guests got seated:

"Lucky" by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat

"Wouldn't Change a Thing" by Matthew West

"I Do" by Colbie Caillat

"Home" by Phillip Phillips

"Got Whatever It Is" by Zac Brown Band

The grandparents, parents and bridal party entered to "Marry Me" by Train.

Then I entered to "Somewhere over the Rainbow" by Iz.

For our sand ceremony and signing of our certificate we used "Angel" by Jack Johnson.

And then our recessional song was "Marry You" by Bruno Mars.

I think John was about to kill me by the time the wedding got here trying to decide on music! haha. Every night he would get home from work and I would have You Tube open listening to different songs! Even with the big hiccup, I loved the songs we chose and the 4 that got played turned out perfectly! They used them all in our video (which you will get to see soon!!) and I loved the way they flowed together.

What kind of music did you use at your wedding?

I LOVE when couples use their own taste or create a theme with the music. It really does add that personal and fun touch, something that not many people think about. I really love your choices too, and I'm sorry that the music wasn't working! That's definitely something that they should have figured out for you before the ceremony, so I'm sorry it happened to you. xoxo

this is perfect timing - I have a phone call with our string quartet this weekend! we're doing that for the ceremony music and I'm afraid they'll hate me because I know exactly what I do and do not want. I'm classically trained, so I can't NOT want control over this, you know? haha!

Ahhhh! We used "Lucky" as my wedding party walked in and used Bruno Mars as our recessional too. I love the non-traditional music. Oh, and having your song by Iz...so perfect for the beach!

That version of Somewhere over the rainbow is my favorite, and I randomly ran across it on Pandora a couple years ago!
