Thanks for 4 Years

4 years ago today, I started this blog. It wasn't called What Makes Savanah Smile... back then, but you can still go back and read my first 6 months of posts before it changed over. It's weird to go back and read my very first post - my writing style has completely changed!

I originally started this blog in January to start a Project 365 and really just wanted a place to document it. I couldn't keep up with it and then found out a bunch of people from home were reading and wanted me to keep writing. So, I did.

That's when What Makes Savanah Smile... was born. I really don't know how in the world I've had so much stuff to say that I could blog for 4 years! I had no idea it would ever go on this long, but it did and I am so glad! I can see a huge difference in me since that first year of blogging. I am so glad I have the last 4 years of our lives documented.

But with that being said, I really don't know what the future of this blog is. I struggle with it a lot because I have to force myself to post some days. Blogging shouldn't be like that. I struggle with this every day because when I hear things from people back home about how they're reading it, or when I get emails from readers thanking me for sharing my story, it makes me want to go on and then I'm torn on what to do. I've shared a lot with the internet over the past 4 years! Going from girlfriend, to fiance' to wife, planning a destination wedding, the loss of a pet, going through breast reduction surgery, a PCOS diagnosis.... we've been through a lot together!

I hate that blogging has turned in to a chore for me. I hate making my readers feel bad when I don't always respond to comments. I hate that people think I don't read their blog because I don't comment. I hate that blogging is all about competition (you can't tell me it's not!)

So, I've decided that today What Makes Savanah Smile... is going private. And will probably eventually go away.

The main point of this was to let everyone know and to just to say Thank You! Especially to those of of you who keep coming back and reading every single day! Whether you let me know you do or not. I appreciate it so much. My world wouldn't be the same without this blog. I've met some amazing ladies, traveled to different cities getting to meet people, and even made a few bucks. All the pictures in this post are of people I've met through blogging and it's crazy because some of these pictures were taken in Ft. Worth, Charleston, San Antonio, Gulf Shores, and even NYC!

If you're interested in continuing to read, please email me. I'll have to add you as a reader. My email is savanah@savanahsmiles.com. But if you read, you will have to know that there won't be posts every day, it will be all content related to MY life, and I may not respond to your comment every time.

It's been a crazy 4 years of ups and downs and right now, I just want my blog for family and close friends and those of you who are really wanting to read. I hope you can all understand that. It will be left open for a few days while I close up last minute things with Blogher and to give people an opportunity to see this. And please, if you are family or a close family friend, please email me or comment on this post and let me know you are reading so I can add you to the list. I want all of you to continue to see and hear about me and John's latest adventures. And again, if you are a loyal reader and a truly interested in our lives after this goes private, send me an email and we can chat!

And of course, I will still be on instagram so please follow me on there!

As one of my readers once said to me in an email... I hope I have shared smiles all over the world. Maybe one day I will continue.

I will email you, of course. I love reading your blog. You were one of the first blogs that I read on a daily basis when I first got into it.

As you know we've had a wild past year and I don't post everyday and I go through times where it feels like a chore and I have to make myself write.

I wish you & John the best and hope to be able to continue to read your journey.

Of course an email is on it's way! Gotta keep reading one of my favs :) I totally understand it being a chore sometimes and hope by changing this way you will find more interest in wanting to write. Over the past four years you have gone thru a lot and have found the love of your life. I can't wait to meet you two one day :) Happy 2014!

I completely understand your decision and I'd love to keep reading as long as you're writing. I've felt the same way... I'm over the publishing every day, coming up with crap to write just because I needed a post, and responding to every single comment. It shouldn't be that way!

I've had to come to terms with myself and blogging. I blog for me and if there are readers who read it, great! If not it's okay too! Our lives get so busy and we want to savor every moment and not be on social media 24/7. O think your blog is great and I've loved reading your and John's adventures through life. Blog for you girl! Best of luck in all you do!

I completely understand and get it. Blogging isn't what it used to be but I'm so glad I got to "meet" you, you were one of my first blog friends! Hopefully we can still meet in person one day. Thankful for Instagram and other social media but I definitely still want to follow along with your blog if you ever do post :)

I'll miss your blog, but I know how it feels to be pressured by it. I definitely want to be added as a reader to read whatever you do post! :)

I hate to hear you'll be going private! I rarely, if ever, commented but always read and loved seeing your many adventures. I will definitely be emailing you so I can follow along with whatever you continue to share, no matter how often you do it!

I'm a little late to the party (catching up on blogging!). But...I'm glad you decided not to go anywhere anytime soon. I like instagram and know that it is slowly replacing blogs (or at least it feels like it)...but it's not the same, ya know? I think when blogs became a way to make money...they started going downhill...not all of them of course...but a lot of them. Kind of sad. Anyway...love reading all about your adventures. We have the travel bug...but are saving for a new home...so we are living vicariously threw y'all!!! Ha.
